Urban Garden at the heart of Pristina

We are celebrating Earth Day in a special way, with this year’s theme ‘Restore Our Earth’, by supporting and promoting environmental sustainability.

We are celebrating Earth Day in a special way, with this year’s theme ‘Restore Our Earth’, to raise awareness on the importance of the collective responsibility to protect the environment for the future.

Kosovo Earth Days start off with the inauguration of Pristina Urban Garden, a temporary installation at the ‘Skanderbeg Square’ in Pristina, to stay there for 3 weeks. Enabled by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), together with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), Innovations Centre Kosovo (ICK) and United Nations Development Coordinators Office (UNDCO).

With this initiative, we are aiming to start a tradition that includes the commitment and cooperation of civil society, Kosovo public and private institution as well as United Nations Kosovo Team agencies, with the joint purpose to support environmental sustainability, raise awareness among the general public on the importance of promoting green economy, sustainable urban development and help Kosovo cities that are in need for more green spaces.

During inauguration of the Urban Garden, the President of Kosovo, UN Development Coordinator, UNDP representative, UN-Habitat representative and Innovations Centre Kosovo representative took part, encouraging the wide public with pictures and videos through social media, to visit the Urban Garden, and also support similar initiatives for a better, greener world!

The green development concepts becoming slowly part of everyday planning and lifestyle. Urban green solves air pollution and heatwave problems, except for being a space we love. Also greening urban spaces is key to healthy and resilient cities. Everyone has a role to play and together we can make each day Earth Day.
