Think Globally, Act Locally!
Climate action will only be effective when each and every individual on our beautiful Planet makes a contribution.
Climate action will only be effective when each and every individual on our beautiful Planet makes a contribution. That’s why UNDP Kosovo is raising climate awareness at various levels of society through a series of Climate Fresk https://climatefresk.org/ workshops explaining in simple terms the causes of climate change and the way we can all contribute to reducing its impact.
Such a workshop was recently held at the Gymnasium in Llapleselle/Laplje Selo in Graçanicë/Gračanica. High school children had the opportunity to learn about climate change and how it has become the biggest threat that humanity has ever faced.
Inspired by the workshop, a group of students decided to go one step further and created an original play on the topic of climate change to educate their community.
The play explains in a satirical way the bad and good behaviors impacting our environment. "Think globally but act locally, that was our guiding star”, says Professor Ana Kostic, creator of the play. "It is easy to work with children, because they are actually much more serious about the future than the older generation," she says. "I was deeply touched by their enthusiasm. They had a lot of fun creating the text, and I had fun with them."
The story was enhanced by the visit of Frankie the Dino, the ambassador of UNDP’s global “Don’t Choose Extinction” campaign. As the embodiment of a species’ destruction, Frankie the Dino shared his message in the play, urging humanity to step up climate action before it is too late.
Frankie the Dino was played by Damjan Mandic, an 18-years old student who said he was honored to be Frankie. "His mission is noble, he teaches us to be better people, not to pull an “asteroid” on us. An asteroid that we aim at ourselves! That asteroid of destruction will mean the end of the life as we know it. I love that I got this role."
UNDP Kosovo’s Climate Fresc workshops are organized through the "Healthier Kosovo 2" Healthier Kosovo project, financed by Luxembourg.
