The 16th edition of the annual journalism awards for Poverty Eradication
The Association of Journalists of Kosovo - AGK, in cooperation with the United Nations agencies in Kosovo - UNKT, under the coordination of the Office of the Development Coordinator - Ulrika Richardson, held the 16th edition of the annual journalism awards "Reporting Award best on Poverty Eradication ".
The 16th edition was held under the motto "Responsible portrayal of poverty" and five awards were given by representatives of the UNKT.
This year, in the category "The Best Short Video Story", the story of the journalist Genta Zejnullahu from TV Syri was awarded. The award was presented by Manushaqe Hoxha-Krasniqi, Senior External Relations Officer from the Office of the Head of the UNHCR Kosovo Mission
The award for ''The Best Audio Story''was given to the journalist from Radio Kosova 2, Denis Galushi. The award was presented by Visare Mujko-Nimani, Head of the UNFPA Office for Kosovo.
The award for ''The Best Written Story'' was given to the journalist of KOHA Group, Fitim Gashi. The award was presented by the UNDP Resident Representative in Kosovo, Ms. Maria Suokko.
While, in the category "The Best TV Documentary", the award was won for the documentary "Today, for tomorrow", by journalist Vjosa Çerkini. The award was given by the Head of the UNOPS office for Kosovo, Mr. Brendan Kiernan.
Independent photographer Valdrin Fetahu was awarded for ''The Best Photograph''. The award on behalf of UN Women was shared by Ms. Ulrika Richardson, UN Development Coordinator.
In addition to the awards ceremony, the participants were addressed by the Chairman of the Board of the Association of Journalists of Kosovo, Xhemajl Rexha and the United Nations Development Coordinator, Ulrika Richardson.
Mr. Rexha said that the main purpose of these awards is to report to journalists is to change policies regarding the eradication of poverty.
Whereas, Mrs. Richardson said that journalists should bring to the attention of the public what the concerns are in Kosovo. Also expressed her concern about the attacks that have taken place against journalists.
"Journalists are the ones who should bring the public's attention to what are the concerns in Kosovo, such as poverty. Kosovo has extreme poverty and is a serious concern. "Extreme poverty can be eradicated."- said Ms. Richardson
The 16th edition of the award ceremony for the best reporting on the eradication of poverty, was also supported by the project "Promoting decent work through strengthening occupational safety and health management, as well as social dialogue in Kosovo." , which is implemented by UNOPS and funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) through the Swedish Embassy in Pristina ".
