The focus of #ecokosovo3 campaign this year has been on the impact that environmental degradation has on the wellbeing of our species and planet. Throughout the year, the pledge that #ecokosovo has been sharing is “When Earth talks, listen!'', aiming to invite all those who want a green and healthy environment to reflect and understand the crisis that Earth is going through, and try to raise awareness of the deep need of protecting it. Needless to say, this message complies perfectly with the borderline of the Human Development Report, which emphasizes that we must require working with nature and not against it. Likewise, the global pandemic COVID-19 has served as a wake-up call to the world to take bold steps and reduce the immense pressure that is being put forth in the environment and natural world.
We are living a moment in history that is out of the ordinary, so be for the planet and for our kind. If we do not break the negative cycles and the threats that we impose to earth through our unconscious actions, we might come to a halt with severe consequences. Let’s not take our planet and its resources for granted, instead start to recognize the unlimited embracement that mother nature gives us every day without asking for anything in return. However, it is our time to return care and awareness to what nature, wildlife, environment and health require from us, our undivided attention.
To steer our efforts towards the future that we want, there are signal changes that we need to navigate towards, one of these changes being the new proposed geological area of humans the ‘Anthropocene’. We as humans are currently dominant habitants of the planet and instead of the planet shaping us, we are doing the opposite, we are shaping the planet! Instead of putting pressure on the planet, we need to work consistently to make incentives for transformations. Building back from the main message of the competition ‘What does Earth tell you about the life you’ll have tomorrow? an affinity is linked with the message that Human Development Report is disseminating ‘an invitation to reflect on the alarming situation as well as the scarcity of the wealth of natural resources surrounding us.
The life that we’ll have tomorrow has been expounded by more than 400 applicants. They all conveyed strong messages through their photography and caught the eye of the judges, to be endorsed as the winners of the #ecokosovo3 competition. Their work is being showcased in the ‘Zahir Pajaziti’ square through an outdoor exhibition and installation, which encapsulates the Healthier Kosovo project final stage of implementation and serves as great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the project, our continuous commitment to building back better from the pandemic, as well as our mission forward.
